Trip to Hong Kong

个人日记

I would like to say that It was a great honor for me to participate in the English Teacher Professional Development Program , which was organized by Canada-China Culture and Education Association . It was financially supported by Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation . It was held in St. Paul Middle School located in Hong Kong . The whole training session lasted for ten days, not including two days’ weekend .

I really want to say thanks to all those people who made me have this precious opportunity to participate in the global classroom training , although I don’t exactly know whom I should show my thanks to .

I have learnt a lot during this training .

First, this training was well-organized with the great help of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation . As learners ,all of us felt satisfied with the organizers . We were arranged to live in a dormitory in Baptist University which is located in Kowloon . And our classroom was in St. Paul’s which is in Causeway Bay .  A special bus took us from the University to the classroom every morning , from which we got warm service .

Secondly, the training content was international and systematic . For each and every day , we had colorful and rich information to share ,we had many new ideas to brainstorm .During these days , we have learnt not only something about Canada culture , but also a lot about specific teaching strategies which we can use in our daily classroom . I think my future students will also benefit from it , too . I will know my students better because I can find out what kind of intelligences they have , thus I can find a right way for them to learn easier and better . And many other advanced teaching methods also interest me a lot , such as Energizers which we can use at the very beginning of a class to help the students warm up ,  many Vocabulary Strategies which would be helpful for us to review new words learnt before , Drama Strategies which offer us new ways to organize our class activities more vividly and creatively , and some Oral Language Strategies which would help the students to speak English bravely and fluently .What’s more , Asia Professional Training Institute lectured by Mandy Chai , who was invited by Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation , was a great priceless treasure with no doubt . Ms Chai told us many teaching and learning skills which focous on Communication ones .It mainly informed us how to know our students better by the Representational systems , MBTI Systems they show ,and how to be a teacher loved by the students ,that is to say , how to establish a close  rapport with our students . And I was impressed by  the living classes given by some Canadian teachers in Han Hua Primary School . They made me understand the theories I learnt better .

Thirdly, the teaching altitude the Canadian teachers behaved was very impressive . Our Sichuan Teachers were devided into four separate classes , so there were four teachers in total .Because  I was in Class One ,I only knew the teacher named Hatty Moon , who is Canadian ,although she looks like a Korean . I was chosen to be monitor of our class ,so I thought  I knew Ms Moon better . She was never late for class and never early to finish school . She was always working hard . She was always patient when answering our questions . She could explain things in different ways if we were confused anywhere . She was always optimistic . She never complained about students . As a teacher , she set a good example for all of us . I think we can learn a lot from her .

Fourthly  , we have also learnt much about Hong Kong . I found  the  public places  were always clean and tidy .There was no rubbish anywhere . Nobody was littering around . Nobody was drinking or eating in public . As a matter of fact , I didn’t brush my leather shoes during the whole stay in Hong Kong ,but they were as clean as newly bought .  And I found that Hong Kong citizens were always  willing to keep public rules . Nobody would cross the streets while the traffic lights were  red .  Everybody would like to wait in line when they were at the bus stop ,  a subway station ,a store , a restaurant , or on a bus . They would never jump the queue . Nobody would talk loudly in public . Another thing impressed me was that the transportation systems were scientifically designed and very developed .The systems were made up of  MTR , buses, tramcars and ferries , which were really convenient and fast . Of course you could  take a taxi when you were on a trip ,but that would be quite expensive . And the cheapest transportation means were tramcars and ferries because there were no coolers on them . The MTR and the buses were popular , they could get to every part of the Island quickly and were comfortable because the coolers were always on . If you have an Octopus Card , you could take any transportation you like . As we know ,Hong Kong is  a  very small island , so the streets are usually very narrow , and the buildings are usually very tall , and it has a very large population of over 780,000,000 people , it couldn’t be spacious . But it didn’t look so crowded , it was in good order . I think it could help us to design our future cities more scientifically and effectively . I believe they would be more beautiful and prosperous . I also found that the Hong Kong people had a conscious mind of protecting the environment ,  greening Hong Kong was highly valued , even a small tree growing in the narrow stone crevices  was well protected . And I had to say that they also paid highly attention to the protection of local culture .There were many famous museums in Hong Kong ,such as History Museum , Science Museum ,  Coastal Defense Museum and so on .In the museum, you can learn a lot about Hong Kong .

The educational system was a little different from ours ,I think . When we got to St. Paul’s Middle School ,  it was time to leave school the second day . There was an end-of-year show before leaving school . The show was so amazing that some of us recorded it for memory . The entire show was hosted by the students in English . They showed a high level of art and language which impressed  all of us .. Every student took an active part in the show and showed their own talents and creativity .. There were many clubs  in school which include art , opera , music , sports and so on . Every student could find their individual intelligence  and establish their confidence . And obviously it’s good for their development .  I hope our education would not only pay attention to the score they got but other aspects of human being’s development .

Of course , Hong Kong is a great place to visit . There are a lot of places to go sightseeing , such as the world-class amusement parks--Ocean Park  and  Disneyland  where there are many amusement instruments for fun . If you seek excitement and thrilling adventure , I’m sure you will have fun there . And you can go to the Peak to see the harbour in the daylight . If possible , it’s better to go in the late afternoon .Then you walk around the peak , which is a beautiful walk and takes an hour .Wait until the sun sets and see the harbour light up when the lights come on at night . It’s really fantastic . I went there with my friends and we took some wonderful pictures . And if you like travelling by water ,you can ride the Star Ferry on the Central to Tsim Sha Tsui route . You can take photos of the beautiful harbour . You can also choose the ride from Exchange Square to Stanley on the top deck of Bus No. 6 . Its attractions include the popular Stanley Market ( a day market ), two fine beaches ( Stanley Main Beach and St Stephens Beach on either side of the peninsula ) , Old Stanley Police Station ,Murray House ( an impressive old colonial building originally located in Central but dismantled and re- erected here in 2001) ,the immaculately maintained Stanley Military Cemetery and Stanley Plaza with its shops , restaurants and entertainment amphitheatre . Or you can ride the Tram from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan .This will give you a glimpse of the entire Hong Kong Island Corridor ( North Side ) which may take two hours . We took the ride and that only cost us $2.30 . If you like shopping ,there are many places for you to choose . For example , Mong Kok where Ladies Market and Jade Market are ,Sham Shui Po where you can go to Electronics , Shatin where you can go shopping at New Town Plaza or Lucky Plaza , and Causeway Bay where Hong Kong people love to shop .Because our classroom was there in Causeway Bay ,most of us  shopped at Times Square .

Finally , I really appreciate the precious chance I had , I would like to say thanks to all those people that made this program carry out . And I think I will use what I learn to improve my following classes , and make them more interesting and effective .I am sure I will make more contribution to my home school . I hope such trainings would be held more regularly.

全是英文!对于我这个只有高中英语水平的人来说,好头大。

好,内容很好。 刚请孩子当翻译,他们说不难,就是不懂那些地名和商店名。 我是一点看不出有啥子好来。[em]e120[/em]
