西江月 - 大丽花的冬天

叶萎花残梗硬,
豆根浑圆须长.
青石坚冷黑土凉，
纤指拾秋正忙。



柔纸围折屏帐,
润沙铺垫软床。
豆根休眠冬漫长，
春归新芽又旺!
 
 

Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, herbaceous perennial plants native mainly in Mexico, but also Central America, When it is introduced to North America, it seems having a hard time to survive the harsh New England winter. Every fall, its olive-shaped roots will be dug out and kept in a warm basement during the winter. When spring comes, these roots will be panted outside.  These gorgeous spiky flowers generally bloom from midsummer to first frost, when many other flowers are withering away.
