            Tongren University, whose predecessor was Tongren Mingde Middle School founded in 1920, is a 

full-time common undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education on February 

14th, 2006. This university has a history of more than 90 years and during its time, tens of thousands 

of  various talented people have been trained and nurtured here, most of whom have become the 

backbone of the local economic construction and social development, having made great contributions 

to the local economic construction. It has been recognized as “National civilized Unit” by the National

Civilization Office and called by the People’s Government of Guizhou Province as a “School of 

Civilization” many times.

Tongren University, with beautiful environment, is located on the bank of Jin Jiang River, in northern

 suburbs of Tongren which is a famous city in the western part of China, in Tongren Prefecture, 

Guizhou Province. It has three campuses at present: the main campus, North Campus and Dong 

Feng Lin Chang Campus, covering an area of 2,325,300 square meters(3488 Mu), with the 

building area of 178,000 square meters. There are modern teaching experimental facilities, including 

Network Centre, Computer Centre, Multimedia classrooms, microteaching classrooms, language 

labs, physics labs, biology labs, chemistry labs etc. The teaching equipment is worth 2323.26 yuan. 

And the library is a provincial excellent library , and has a collection of over 760,000 books 

(240,000 electronic books included) and six databases in Chinese and foreign languages. It also has

proceedings publicly issued all over the country. Here set up Cultural Research Centre of Eastern 

Guizhou, Characters’ Library of Eastern Guizhou and Paintings and Calligraphy Gallery of Eastern 

Guizhou. It acts as Guizhou Test Centre of the National Computer Rank Examination and the National 

English Level Testing, qualified teachers’ training and examination site, primary and middle school 

principals’ training site, teachers’ nurturing and training site, tourism training base and other talented 

people’s nurturing and training of Tongren Prefecture.

This university now has 701 faculty members, 459 full-time teachers, 130 teachers with senior 

titles, among whom are 16 professors, 114 associate professors, 2 Doctors, 143 Masters, 42 PhD 

and Master postgraduates in reading and 11 external teachers involving 4 foreign teachers. 

1 expert enjoying government allowances, 1 chief expert hosting Guizhou’s major technological 

projects, 4 experts in charge of the local management, 4 prize winners of Zeng Xianzi Education 

Found, 4 national outstanding teachers, and 1 employer hired as academic advisor for Master’s 

candidate in Guizhou’s key universities. 3821 full-time university undergraduates and 4057 college 

students amounts to 7888 school students. 

Tongren university has 12 apartments at present,2 teaching apartments and 1 affiliated middle school.

it broadly concerning literary, science, techniques ,teaching supervising and history dividing into 48 

majors. for the purpose of perfecting the infrastructure, cultivate talent people best adapted to the 

fast--changing society as well as setting the relations with economic society, we are trying hard and 

believe we are already on the path .till now ,our university has had 21 majors to choose and we are 

expecting to increase by 3 to 4 annually. Besides, we are focusing on the transition from 

college-centered education to universitycentered one and developing to a comprehensive local special 

university including teacher teaching and non-teacher teaching developing.

We hold the strategy –education quality based, scientific study flourished, talent-enhanced extremely 

high promote the connotation of education .we make efforts to advance the big three construction 

as well as pay equal attention between the college and university, between education and scientific 

research ,between quality and quantity. Though our university is located in northern Guizhou 

province , it enrolls students from all over china. we have only one mission that is to foster graduates

 fitted t the society and serve the nation .by long--time hardworking ,it has become the 

“talent base” of the strategy of west development and the “education and science boosting Tongren

plan ”.

According to local administration and bureau, the new campus located in Chuandong takes up about 

650 mu .the location is of beautiful scenery and convenience which is regarded as the perfect location.

it begins to build in January 16th and hoping to finish it in 3 years by which time we will have a big 

removal and become a “one site-base” comprehensive university.
